Bindi's BOW WOW Blog - July 2009
Hi everyone, firstly can I just say how cold it has been lately and those thunder storms are really freaking me out. There has been a lot going on lately, my human brother and sister are back at school for Term 3 and I really hate it, because they let me get away with a lot when Mum's not looking and now it's back to "routine" she likes to call it. I am helping my Mum bake birthday cakes for our customers which is an exciting new product for the store, sometimes she even lets me lick the spoon :) I love birthdays, mine is in December which is great because I get birthday gifts then a few sleeps then I get Christmas gifts, it's like the "Festival of Bindi". I have a secret that I shouldn't really spill but I trust you will tell no one................... Mum is working on new ideas for our limited edition Christmas Barky Mix to be released in October but shhhhhhhhhh I didn't tell you, keep an eye out on our home page for new releases. Another thing that happened recently - I went on a journey................................mum was answering the front door and in my brand new woolen coat I darted past the guest at the door and ran up the street, I felt the wind in my hair (and the sand at my paws) as I ran up the street free as a bird, mum was running after me yelling - I crossed the road without looking - what a rebel. I kept running in the hope I would find Lake Monger - then I heard the jingle jangle of car keys I looked back and mum had opened the car door - I turned around and bid freedom goodbye as I ran towards the car in the hope of a dog spa appointment - I jumped into the car and jiggled anxiously, then grumpy Mum put her hand on my collar and carried me inside - she tricked me!!!!!!!!!!! I got a stern talking to and wasn't allowed to help with baking that day, because I tried to escape. The motto of today's blog; 1. Have your birthday in December if you can and turn it into a festival about you; 2. Do not go out without checking with your Mum; 3. Look both ways before you cross the road; 4 Make sure you parade up and down the street in style preferrably a woollen coat!!!!! BOW WOW
Maddy's Mailbag - March 2009
I would like to introduce myself to you, my name is Maddison and I am a 10 year old Belgian Shepherd. My new owners found information about my adoption online at www.petrescue.com.au - I was staying at Happy Paws Haven in Grafton with the lovely Sally Rogers www.happypaws.com.au
I was initially rescued from a NSW Pound - with the some help from Belgian Shepherd lovers I was taken by Sally Rogers Happy Paws Haven in Grafton with only days till euthanasia.
During a bath it was noticed that my belly had grown rather large. They initially thought was that I might be pregnant (news to me!) as no records of me being previously desexed were available. Dr Chris at Riverbank Vet www.riverbankvet.com.au took an X-Ray picture to see if this was the case. The X-Ray showed a massive soft tissue mass pretty much filling my whole abdominal cavity (I thought I was getting a bit porky???).
It was decided two days before Christmas that I would have an operation to investigate the mass. The procedure was lengthy and complex involving two veterinary surgeons working together to remove the mass that involved spleen, intestines and pancreas. The mass finally came away weighing in at a massive 3.2kg! Dr Chris said "I think this is the largest mass I have ever removed from a dog's abdominal cavity". I also had a splenectomy as there were concerns that secondary tumours were present in this organ also.
I spent Christmas recovering in hospital soon and was fit and well and reunited with my devoted foster-carer Sally.
Sally spoke with my new potential mum in Perth many times about me - taking me in was not a decision to be made lightly as I had been through a lot and wanted to live out my twilight years in a comfortable loving home environment. The decision was made and I was adopted by new family on 28 February this year - to my delight they own a dog treat business - wooooohooooo - and I love it, I have even put on 2.5kgs (I needed too - I was a tad neglected when they found me at the pound - and don't forget about all that space left by the tumour!).
As much as I love Sally, I really love my new home, I have two teenagers to play with, who take me on walks, brush me, lay on me and all round love me, I have a new mum who is around all the time, who regularly takes me on car rides especially to the school. I also have my two new fur-sisters Bindi and Catty and we have a great time together, I think they were a bit unsure about me because I am a lot bigger than them - but they are so lovely to me. Bindi has a personal space issue and licks me constantly but to be honest - I like the attention.
I have just noticed a warm spot in the hallway where the sun hits the tiles and I must get to it before Bindi does!
WOOF!

Bindi's Blog - 4 February 2009
Welcome back to my first blog for 2009.
Wow what a great time I have had over the Christmas School holidays!
I saw off my brother and sister today as they went back to school - I was a bit sad but got over it quickly when I was given a bone and big hugs.
Let me tell you what I got up to over the school holidays.
I went for plenty of walks and caught up with some old neighbourhood friends, I got a chew toy in my stocking for Christmas and got to sit under the dining table for Christmas lunch, we had a great time, I waited for guests to drop food, and not many did though.
More and more people kept coming over to our house over Christmas and the New Year period we had lots of BBQ's which works well from my point of view. Some bad news though, Catty had to go to the vet, she has some kidney issues but some antibiotics and fresh meat only diet fixed her right up, she's looking a bit porky now, but looks much healthier and she is far more playful than ever.
My brother and sister and I labelled all the school books and uniforms, I wish they allowed dogs in High School!!!! I know I would behave and be a great contributor to classroom discussions...................
From the business point of view, this will be a big year for Hair of the Dog Barkery, I heard some great new flavours are being invented (I eavesdrop from time to time) , of course, I'll be trialling them and will get back to you with my opinion. I have made plenty of new friends through the HOTDog Club and I am finding it very hard to choose Lucky Pooch of the Month so keep those photos coming in.
Anyway I must go, I need to pretend I was asleep all day and not pining for my brother and sister before they notice that I'd chewed some their socks.................
Have a howling great day.
BINDI xoxo
Bindi's Blog - 1 December 2009
Welcome to Hair of the Dog Barkery, I am Bindi, my mum runs the online store and she has asked me to do a Bindi Bow Wow Blog every now and then to talk to you doggy lovers about my days and give you insider access into my doggy biscuit loving world.
ABOUT ME
Where do I start, well my breed is a Lowchen which is a not so common breed, but would you believe there are three Lowchens living in my street, we bark at each other a lot.
I was born in Western Australia and my first home was with a really nice family in Bunbury but their new landlord said that I couldn’t move with them to their new house, so after a year playing in the backyard with two small boys and a baby girl I moved to my current home in Leederville, I really loved those little guys they never told me to sit, and I could jump all over them and lick them and they loved it!
MY NEW HOME
I was very nervous when I moved house, my owners were a family of four with bigger kids (they call them teenagers) I was told they were my new brother and sister, I didn’t get very close to them for the first week they always were telling me to sit, how annoying………….
MY NEW CATFLAT-MATE
What was even worse, a black cat lived in the kennel next to me, they call her Catty, WOW! now that’s an imaginative name, yet very fitting. Every time I went up to Catty to say hi she biffed me in the nose, but her claws where not out, that's how I knew she had a soft spot for me.
MMMMM CAT FOOD
After a few nights in a row of eating Catty’s dinner my parents worked out to put her bowl on top of the garage……that's a shame, I was really enjoying my Tuna appetisers.
THE SIEGE - BINDI SAVES THE DAY
One night we were in our kennels and Catty told me she is not a very adventurous cat and the other cats aren’t really that fond of her, they chase her a lot, so we devised a plan for the next day. Catty had not come home for her dinner, I could hear Catty crying for help, she ran into my kennel, I told her to wait there, I ran out and to my surprise there was a stranger cat staring me straight in the eye, I ran up to her and barked in her face, she ran off and we have never had another cat in our backyard ever again. Catty says she sleeps well now that I am there to protect her. After a few weeks Catty and I spent our first Christmas together, I love her, she is my best friend.
OUR ROUTINE
Our days consist of going in and out of the human house (especially while my father is at work), my mum makes all the biscuits and I test one from every batch, I am getting a bit porky from it, so my mum and dad take me for more walks, so do my brother and sister, I can’t believe what teenagers talk about, but their chats are for my ears only. Sometimes my brother brings his Ipod with us on a walk, he puts it on loud so I can hear it, I love music, especially Snoop Dog and the Cat Empire.
Anyway I have to go now, it's time to see if there are any socks in the laundry for me to chew……………………… I hope you enjoy Hair of the Dog Barkery biscuits as much as I do. Keep a paw out for my next blog.
